The kids like to watch a particular cartoon series on Netflix named “Spirit”. It’s all about a girl and her horse and their many antics. They were super excited Friday night after we got home from work and school as they had realized the new episodes were just released.

My kids, as I’m sure for most, are easily excitable. Levi, in particular, was so elated that he exclaimed: “this is the best season ever!” It took about 1.4 seconds for the impact of his statement to hit me. I was floored and started to tear up. It’s as if God was speaking a couple different things to me.

First, we have to become like little children and find the excitement in the everyday. If you find it difficult to become enthused, take some time to look at your kids (or grand-kids) through a different lens. Pray for God to teach you to shift perspective.

Matthew 18:3 “And He said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” (NIV)

The second thing is to take the statement literally; to thoroughly enjoy and embrace your season. To learn all God is trying to show you and to rest in Him and His goodness. Trust that He has a plan and just breathe. It sounds so simple but yet it can be so hard when the trials come.

I just love how carefree children are and I think there’s a valuable lesson to learn from their attitude and outlook. Father, please help each one of us to relax and rest in You. Let us become childlike with a simplistic excitement for life and a positive viewpoint. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

  1. Love this, a true word in a timely season! Ha, did you catch that? Season…yeah, not so funny. But really it was a true word. I just finished writing an email and commented on how I hate getting old and all of the things that have to adjust to my age–food choices, skin care, more exercising, etc. Your words convicted me that ALL seasons are good. I am alive, healthy, sill in love with my husband after 31 years and have a great life to be thankful for. Thanks Mara, we miss you and Jonathan.
