We had an interesting occurrence this week. One night last week as the kids and I were walking home from the neighbor’s house, we noticed something run across the top of our driveway. A closer look confirmed our suspicion – it was a baby deer! We also discovered something else – it had been hurt and was seeking shelter on our porch.
We carefully went inside to find my husband and as we went back out, the deer got scared and hobbled away. 🙁 The kids were so upset wondering what would happen to the frightened and hurt little baby out in the woods surrounding our house.I told them there was nothing we could do but pray that the Father would protect this little creature.
The next morning as we were getting ready to leave, I noticed the deer back to its spot right behind the chair on our porch! I kept the news silent as I did not want to get the kids involved at this point. I called my husband, who, in turn, called animal control. The deer was picked up later that morning and taken to the local animal shelter and rehabilitation center. The kids were so excited! And, that’s when the weight of what really happened hit me.
Our loving Father cared enough about this little animal to save it and protect it overnight and also have it nursed back to health. It was a real life powerful example for me and the kids to see that God really does hear us and provide for our needs.
Matthew 10:29 (NIV): “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.”
