I Peter 4:19 – “trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you.”

A couple weeks ago I was praying and wondering why I had been feeling so uptight and worried. I believe through this the Holy Spirit showed me that people have problems with intimacy with Him. I believe that we are afraid to be laid bare before Him. We hide things thinking He won’t see but I guess we forget He is omniscient (all-seeing). We get so self-absorbed, or focused about some problem, that we can’t see, or can’t accept the free gift in front of us. The gift that He is offering could mean different things for each of us depending where we are and what we are going through. The overview for me was just to relax and let go…the exact topic of two recent devotions!

God even used my 90 year old Grandma, unbeknownst to her I’m sure, to speak to me!

When we were talking this particular morning she said that sometimes we plan things and they don’t work out.

A couple nights later I had trouble sleeping and I was worrying about what lied ahead the next few days, which, by the way, most of it changed! Just goes to show things are often unpredictable and we should not worry. That is why God told us in His Word to focus just on the day at hand. My daily devotion (“Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young) said that we were not created to handle more than 1 day at a time and that worrying is a sin. God showed me that trust and worry cannot co-exist. It is comparable to thankfulness and complaining. You can’t have them occurring at the same time! Needless to say, we should be striving toward trust and thankfulness, not worry and a complaining attitude.

There is a song by Brian & Jenn Johnson called “ A Little Longer”. Here are some of the lyrics and my take on the interpretation in parentheses.

Wait, this moment is too sweet (enjoying God’s presence). Won’t you please stay here with me? (God is desiring time with us). And let those things go? For they can wait another minute (release and trust Him).

Two things here: A) I think sometimes we think we have to perform for God to notice us and love us, and B) We need to learn to relax and let go-enjoy God’s Presence.

I also looked up the word “trust” and one of the meanings was a “confident expectation of something; hope.” I had never before equated the meaning of trust to have something to do with hope. Romans 8:24 says, “But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?” (NIV)

God, I trust You to carry out Your will for my life. I trust You to bring me into my destiny and the calling You have placed upon me And finally I trust You with the little details of my everyday life. I know that worry is pointless and we have been commanded to not do this. (Matthew 6:34). I long to be in Your Presence, to hear Your voice and to do Your will each time You speak. Help me in these areas where I am struggling. Help me to have balance. Help me to quit making a bigger deal out of things than I need to. Come have Your way in my life. In Jesus Name, Amen.
